Academic Engagement and Achievement |
Enhance program structure and curriculum in preparation for CSWE reaffirmation |
a. MSW faculty will meet on a monthly basis to review the draft CSWE 2015 EPAS and recommend curriculum changes and assignments to guide curriculum enhancements. b. Faculty will identify benchmark assignments that can be used to assess student proficiency with each competency/student learning outcome. |
Program curriculum maps will be developed to guide program direction and continuous quality improvements efforts
|
50% of Benchmark assignments will be assessed in practice courses and field placement |
TARGET PARTIALLY MET A curriculum map was developed for the generalist level portion of the curriculum. Benchmark assignments were identified in Spring 2014. Due to the delay in identifying benchmark assignments, it was recommended that the collection of performance data on benchmark assignments begin in Fall 2014 to allow time for identified curriculum changes to be approved. This would also allow time to train/orient adjunct faculty to benchmark assignments. |
OVERALL: TARGET PARTIALLY MET Description of projected use of results from the 2012-2013 academic year that is being addressed in the 2013-2014 academic year: Given the proposed curriculum changes that were recommended to align the curriculum with CSWE 2015 EPAS, faculty decided that benchmark assignments for courses that were not changing would be collected during this reporting period.

Academic Engagement and Achievement |
Increase the use of technology to enhance and assess instructional delivery in the classroom and field practicum |
a. Faculty will participate in D2L trainings and other technology-focused professional development activities on and off campus to enhance their competence to use technology in the classroom. b. Field faculty and staff will research web-based platforms and other forms of technology that will increase the efficiency and accuracy of monitoring students performance in practicum. |
i. # of faculty who complete D2L trainings, # of faculty funded to attended professional development trainings focused on using technology ii. Spreadsheet of viable cost efficient platforms broken down by capabilities/features |
i. 100% of faculty will attend one or more D2L trainings offered by SSU. ii. A minimum of 3 products/platforms will be reviewed and presented to departmental and college administration |
TARGET MET 100% of full-time faculty have attended a least one D2L training. Adjunct faculty will be trained by Program Coordinators. Several faculty attended the annual CSWE program meeting and report attending sessions that focused on using technology to facilitate learning. One faculty reported that she will begin using the app GroupMe to communicate with students outside of class to remind them of upcoming assignments and quizzes. After sharing the viable field management platforms with administration, LiveText was selected. |
OVERALL: TARGET MET Description of projected use of results from the 2012-2013 academic year that is being addressed in the 2013-2014 academic year: More faculty are now using D2L and having students submit assignments through the dropbox folders. 2.0 Apps to engage students in and out of the classroom (GroupMe, Poll Everyone, Kahoot,etc.).
Description of the expected use of results that will be addressed in the 2014-2015 academic year. Conversations are underway to determine next steps for moving forward with implementing LiveText FEM. Faculty have been encouraged to attend one-on-one D2L trainings and fiscal resources have been allocated to allow faculty to attend technology related trainings during the 2014-2015 academic year. Faculty who use D2L will be allowed to offer classes in a hybrid format. |
Academic Engagement and Achievement |
Increase local and global outreach and visibility by fostering lifelong learning and engagement with students, faculty, staff, alumni and the SSU community
|
a. The Office of Field Education will engaged in targeted outreach to recruit additional field placement agencies for students to complete practicum placements. b. Faculty will include professional development trainings in future grant applications to increase the array of training opportunities for students, alumni, and professionals in the community. c. Faculty advisers will encourage social work student organizations to design and implement community service project. d. Field Faculty will work with community agencies to create opportunities for students to engage in project-based learning that is responsive to identified community and organizational needs. |
i. # of new field placements established ii. # of new grants awarded iii.# of trainings provided to the community iv. # of community service and project-based learning opportunities students participate in v. # of social work students who travel abroad Sign in sheets and training evaluations will be used for continuous quality improvement. |
i. 4 new field placements will be established. ii. A minimum of 1 training/workshop will be offered to students, alumni, and professionals in the community. iii. Students in field practicum will assess agency needs and identify present the agency with one practical gift that addresses identified needs (update a brochure, develop a manual, etc.) |
TARGET MET MOUs with 6 new field placements were secured. The department hosted one licensure preparation workshop in April. 100% of field students presented their agency with a practical gift that was based on an identified need. The MSW social work student organization (SWIFT) was inactive most of the year. One graduate student traveled abroad with faculty during the Summer 2014 semester. Three faculty were awarded a behavior health grant that will begin Fall 2014. |
OVERALL: TARGET MET Description of projected use of results from the 2012-2013 academic year that is being addressed in the 2013-2014 academic year: Based on findings, faculty decided to assist in the recruitment of new field placement agencies and help promote opportunities to study abroad in their classes. Students in the research courses will be required to complete field based research projects. These projects may use evaluation data that agencies are required to collect and report. Faculty who received the HRSA funded behavior health grant will partner with existing field agencies so that students engage in project based learning.
